Betfred, “The Bonus King”, was established by brothers Fred and Peter Done in 1967 and in the intervening 40 years or so has grown into the biggest independent bookmaker in the world. Betfred concessions are by no means limited to horse and greyhound racing, however. Football fans, for example, can bet on England to win the World Cup safe in the knowledge that their stake will be refunded if the team loses in the final and anyone staking £50 or more on the World Cup receives £15 worth of chips for the Betfred Casino. Tennis fans can benefit even if their selected player is outplayed; Betfred promises to refund losing single bets on any player who loses a set 6-0 as a free bet and if he or she loses two or three sets 6-0 the refund will be doubled or trebled. Similarly, if a golfer is beaten in a playoff single bets up to £250 will be refunded as a free bet.

The Betfred website is slick and easy to navigate. The sports homepage provides access to a wide range of bets on everything from horse racing and football to motor sports and snooker. Live audio commentaries are available for horse racing, greyhound racing and selected football matches, whilst a horse racing text commentary is provided for online users without audio capability. Casino, poker, bingo, etc are also available from the Betfred front page and offer a range of welcome bonuses in keeping with the Betfred philosophy.
