GetFreeBets.co.uk, a leading UK-based online bookmaking advisor, comments on the rise in popularity of betting on football above horse racing.
While horse racing is a traditional and popular event in the UK, there has been a decline in the number of bets being placed on it in recent years. Experts believe this is to do with the rise of online betting, including online bingo sites and free casino games, which can give people the thrill of winning without having to visit a bookmaker’s branch or scour race listings.
With many bookmakers now operating online stores, people can choose to place a large number of bets across a wide range of sports from the comfort of their own home. Football has proven to be one of the key successes, with online bets during the World Cup reaching incredibly high levels.
“Football has been one of the UK’s most popular sports for a long time now, and bookmakers are finding that more and more people are placing bets on matches,” commented a spokesperson for GetFreeBets.co.uk. “As the younger generations become involved with recreational betting, they are leaning more towards football, slots and online games to try their hand at winning. Horse racing is still incredibly popular, with many people placing small bets on races every day, yet football has become a bigger sport for bookmakers.”

The online bingo business sector is a rapidly growing one with millions of players accessing a range of online bingo sites and participating in a range of bingo games every year. As such, those companies which develop and host online bingo sites have acknowledged that they must become more competitive and informed of the needs of their customers in order to succeed.
The Annual Online Bingo Summit has been developed in order to create an environment where these bingo businesses can come together to enjoy a networking and data gathering experience. At this event, online bingo providers can meet with similar businesses and share ideas about how to progress this form of entertainment. Sessions designed to devise new ways of working and better ways of delivering bingo gaming to customers are scheduled, and new strategies can be drawn out to improve online bingo in general.
Not only do bingo industry workers attend the annual online summit, online bingo customers are also present at this event. This gives a unique opportunity for online bingo companies to network and seek feedback from those who use their online bingo sites.
This summit, and those similar, not only benefit those who trade within the online bingo market, but they also create a better bingo experiences for players. New innovations in online bingo create a more robust and enjoyable sector and help keep both players and businesses satisfied.

Bookies Surprised by Race Outcome
Bookies are normally good at predicting the outcome of races. However, a number of bookmakers were surprised recently when a horse that was not tipped to place well came home in first position.
In the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, which took place on the final day of York’s Ebor meeting earlier in the season, Sole Power shocked punters and bookies alike by romping home in the lead.
The beast had been on at 100/1 when the race began and he managed to fend off Starspangledbanner to score by a by a length and a quarter.
The animal was trained in Co Meath by Eddie Lynam, who commented: “The last time I trained a Group 1 winner, someone woke me up!
“We were hopeful but we didn’t think he would win – if he had finished fourth we would have been pleased. He’s been disappointing since the spring but they go too slow for him in the sprints in Ireland. He broke the track record at Dundalk.”
Next year, the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes will run a day later as the Ebor is to be staged on Saturday as the feature race.
Bookmakers at this year’s race meet were busy and two further events are set to take place at the race track this year.
Fans and jockeys will be heading to location for the October Finale stakes, which are set to occur on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th.
The racecourse has a history dating back many years. Indeed, the first detailed records of a race meeting go back over three hundred years to 1709.
It is also highly regarded among many in the sport. Recently, it won a Flat Racecourse of the Year Award and also came out in first place in a survey carried out by the Times newspaper of all Britain’s racecourses.
Betting ‘Provides Punters with a Thrill’
There is more to placing bets than money, it has been suggested.
Writing on Goal.com, betting and odds expert David Mole claimed that it is the thrill punters get when in bookmakers or placing bets over the web that just as much of a lure as the potential for cash.
He suggested that people engage in the activity partly so they can get one over on their bookies and prove they are right.
However, when approaching the pursuit, individuals need to act with restraint, Mr Mole noted.
He commented: “Discipline is so important and could be the one key skill that separates professional winning gamblers from amateur punters.”
According to the writer, people should learn to ignore a hunch while they are in the bookmakers or online.
He said: “I have seen many punters in the past follow a pattern of researching their bets thoroughly and perhaps selecting four or five clever bets for the weekend.
“Then [they proceed] to bet more than the combined stake on those selections on a ridiculous scorecast, simply because they have a hunch.”
It can be helpful for consumers to imagine a mentor standing over them as they fill in their betslips at the bookies, Mr Mole added.
Those keen to make some money from the activity will track every bet they make and keep a record of their profit margin, he claimed.
Another important trick of the trade is learning not to necessarily back their own team, he pointed out, as this has more to do with hope than with analysis.
He went on to joke: “Hearing stories of the Blackpool fans backing their team to win the Premier League at 10,000/1 makes me wish I had found them prior to placing their bet so that I could have set fire to their money.”
Betting is a popular activity in the UK at present and a rising number of people are engaging in the pursuit online.
